Scarif Scuttlebutt Podcast

We're got a very special episode with André Hutchens of #BackseatDirectorsPodcast. Ro and André break down why it is that genre films are such a fun theater experience and what that means to movie going audiences overall. We also track our favorite movies on various streaming platforms and how these services have changed the landscape of the theater going experience.

Genre films have been event films and fans have taken this trek to movie houses for a long time. Is today's climate with covid and streaming and home tech theaters changing the notion of going to the movies? We hope you enjoy this discussion. Don't forget to weigh in after you've listened.

A big thank you to Michelle and Natalie of #ForceOfLightEntertainment podcast for contributing to this discussion.

Plus, don't miss this week's #SentryMode and see how André did. Don't worry André, there's much more important things to remember than the name of the tower in DIE HARD. Any takers? That's the Scuttlebutt.

Ro and Brad have the distinct pleasure of talking with master curator of the world's largest Star Wars collection on the planet, none other than Rancho Obi-Wan's Steve Sansweet. We've got stories of particular collectibles, confessions of how far we'd go to obtain a piece and we put Steve through the ringer with our Q/A segment, Sentry Mode. Did we stump him? Tune in and find out. Big thanks to Charlie Red4 / Star Wars Through the Ages Podcast for sending us a clip about what he remembers about his early collection.

Covid and the pandemic has closed down many places we'd gather like conventions, concerts, movie theaters and museums. Rancho Obi Wan depends on visitors to survive, but with no visitors, it's becoming more and more difficult to function. As you know, it takes a lot of effort to keep the lights on and if you're able to, we'd ask you to visit www.RanchoObiWan.org and consider a virtual tour subscription. Lots of perks, and the satisfaction that you are helping preserve this vast archive of Star Wars collectibles for all to see.

Thank you for listening, and #ThatsTheScuttlebutt

Ro and Alex are back and they're talking about the new #DisneyPlus show shrouded in some mystery. Rogue One is a favorite of ours and spinning off a spin off seems like a no brainer. This episode is full of fun speculation based on casting announcements and things we already know. But the real treat is the contributions from our friends like Alberto at Radio Rebellio Podcast, David Triana of Followers of the Force and the wonderful ladies of Force of Light Entertainment, Michelle and Natalie who have all sent in some clips to help us get excited about the new Cassian show.

A special shout out to the Padawans at the Padawan Report for their opening promo and a very special shout out to Pat of ConverSWations Podcast for his K2SO rendition at the top of the show.

May the Force be with you.

The world is in turmoil...again. We're taking a look at how science fiction has presented social issues in the past and how those social issues have affected the way sci-fi is told in pop culture. We took special attention to sci-fi like classic Trek, Lucas' early film, THX1138 and Planet of the Apes with our guests Dave and Liv from Pizza and Parsecs as well as a special contribution from Andrew and Merisha from Coruscant Radio Underground.

We're very proud to share this with you all. There was lots to be said and we encourage you to continue the discussion with the Red5Network family. Thats the scuttlebutt.

Ro and Brad get 'spiritual' and discuss a few topics that have always perplexed mankind...and #StarWars fans alike. The notion of fate, destiny and free will are part of the sci-fi pantheon and redemption always seems to play a pivotal role in our favorite galaxy far, far away. But what does that mean? Can we analyze those concepts from a more earthly...or shall I say 'heavenly' point of view?

We're joined tonight by the ladies of #GoldSquadron, Force of Light Entertainment and part of our #Red5Family, somewhat experts in the field, and we've got our questions ready!

Ro and Brad talk about how propaganda in Star Wars worked between the two messages carried through by the Empire and it's counterpart message by the Rebel Alliance. Each had it's own agenda to portray the other in a bad light. Brad gives us a little history lesson on the roots of real world propaganda and how it evolved to something that to this day carries a negative connotation.

We explore how the Empire aligned itself as a force for galactic 'law and order' versus the terrorist forces of the Rebel Alliance through the actions of rebel agents such as Luke Skywalker and the most extremist operative Saw Guerrera and how each shaped the image of the Rebellion.

The Empire was into denial and the Rebels were overpowered due to the secret project that was well underway as we join the story in a New Hope. But aren't 'rebellions built on hope?' We hope you enjoy this critical analysis of "propaganda' in a galaxy far, far away!

Team Scarif talk with best selling author Claudia Gray on a very special May 25th, 2020 about how here fan favorite books like Lost Stars, Leia; Princess of Alderaan and others came to be developed. Claudia gives us some insight on what her favorites are and what characters she enjoys writing. Brad asks her about the term 'Hutt Slayer' and Ro grills her about being a journalist.

If you missed this live interview on YouTube back on May 25th, don't miss it here! #ThatsTheScuttlebutt

Collectors are passionate, Star Wars collectors are crazy, we all know. Ro talks with fellow Star Wars collectors Josh and Andy from the Holochronicles Podcast to discuss why it is that we collect. What is it that drives us to surround ourselves with collectibles of any kind? We discuss that need and how collecting is a very personal process.

We'll also have your voicemails and hear what your collections mean to you. Thanks for calling in to the Scuttlebutt Hotline, now you're part of the show.

And a special 'collecting' #SentryMode segment from resident quiz master @TreverBeast454. Test your knowledge and play along.
