Melanie Oliveiro finds out more about two Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) Cultural Extravaganza 2024 concerts. Guest conductor Quek Ling Kiong will talk about ‘Disappearing Series…: Childhood Melodies of Yesteryears’ performed by Ding Yi Music Company the Chinese chamber music ensemble. Their concert will revive vanishing dialect nursery rhymes and iconic Singapore folk songs from Chinese, Malay, and Indian traditions. SNYCO Guest Conductor Lien Boon Hua will then talk about ‘Reunion 2.0’ which will perform modern twists to songs such as ‘Admiral of the Seven Sea’ by the Cultural Medallion recipient Law Wai Lun Spring and Cantonese classic ‘Dry Thunderstorm’.
