Hurricane Bill brought big waves to the Jacksonville Beach Pier on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, and Scene from Florida HD was there to catch 'em. On film, of course.

Scene from Florida HD recently went for a walk with about 1,000 other people and their pets during the Trail of Tails 2009 Pet Walk and Festival, presented by the Jacksonville Humane Society. The first-time event was held at Friendship Fountain Park on the St. Johns River, and the 1.5 mile walking trail wound through the Southbank, but the main draw was, of course, the doogies.

Scene from Florida HD brings you March 22 game highlights from Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, where the New York Mets have played Spring Training games since 1988. Featuring the Mets ace, Johna Santana; arguably the most electric player in baseball Jose Reyes; a double by Luis “creaky knees” Castillo; and renditions of “Take me out to the ballgame” and the “Star-Spangled Banner”…if this episode doesn’t get you excited about the upcoming Major League Baseball season, nothing will.

No matter the temperature outside, the waters of Blue Spring in Orange City remain a constant 72 degrees, creating a perfect winter haven for the West Indian manatee and a variety of other Florida creatures. In this episode of Scene from Florida HD, we visit Blue Spring State Park and witness birds, alligators and turtles enjoying a bit of sun at this freshwater spring.

On a still wintry morning, Scene from Florida HD reveals Boneyard Beach at the northern edge of Big Talbot Island. A series of constantly shifting sand bars shields the beach from the open Atlantic Ocean. The “bones” are the skeletal remains of oak trees, fallen in their march toward the sea. Low bluffs stand as silent sentinels, forever keeping watch over the coast. Despite the racing clouds, not a breath of air stirred when I last visited. I can’t say the same for the sand gnats. Before you hike down to and along the beach at Big Talbot, be sure to liberally apply the insect repellant.

In our first of many shopping features called Shops down the Block, Scene from Florida HD takes you through the shops and restaurants of the Beaches Town Center, where Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach meet in Northeast Florida.

Along the banks of the Indian River on the east central Florida coast, you’ll see a wide variety of plants and wildlife. While watching the sun rise over the Indian River lagoon, some birds joined us for the first episode of Scene from Florida HD in 2009.

In our last episode of 2008, Scene from Florida HD presents the 14th Annual Tuba Christmas, where 100 tuba players bring the bass to classic Christmas carols at the Jacksonville Landing. See you in '09!
