Alright, alright, alright....with summer winding down we head back to school for our final installment of our Summer Series, discussing the 1993 cult classic: Dazed and Confused. We talk about why Hayley hadn't seen that, our shared love of Matthew McConaughey, how the hazing depicted holds up, reminisce about our own carefree last days of high school, and more!
As always, thanks to our listeners new and from the very beginning! We are taking a little break but will be back later this year with more films to discuss and hopefully more guests! We love you all!
With summer in full SWING, we pack our dancing shoes and head up to the Catskills to discuss the fifth installment of our Summer Series, the 1987 classic: Dirty Dancing. We get into why Averyl (self-proclaimed "great dancer" and Swayze fan) hadn't seen that, how there's WAY more to this film than just dancing, Johnny and Baby's chemistry and if they really are "in love", how annoying some of the characters are (hint: Baby's sister), and more!
It's been a KILLER summer so far...for our fourth installment of our Summer Series, we're back at summer camp and back to our North Jersey roots (ayyy!) to discuss the 1980 cult classic: Friday the 13th. We get into why Hayley hadn't seen it, our appreciation for the film's location (and a young Kevin Bacon), how this film stands out from the rest in the franchise, how Mrs. Voorhees is kind of a badass but still terrifying, and more!
Since Earth is TOO hot right now, we're escaping out into space AGAIN! For our third installment of our Summer Series, we're discussing the 1996 summer blockbuster: Independence Day. Just in time for the upcoming national holiday, we get into why Averyl hadn't seen that, how it surprisingly holds up as a 25-year-old action flick, the similarities to other space films we've covered, if the US government actually has a plan for alien invasions, and much more!
With the heatwave past us, we try to cool off by dipping into the second installment of our Summer Series and classic from 2017, Call Me By Your Name. We discuss why Hayley hadn't seen that, the hype surrounding it's release and some of the valid criticisms it received, how we both yearn for a summer in a small, Italian village, what the title of the movie really means, and more!
WE'RE BACK!! While it may not *officially* be the start of summer, it sure feels like it, and to celebrate the increase in humidity and sunburns we're kicking things off with our first-ever Summer Series! Over the next twelve weeks, we will be discussing six films that either take place during the summer season or were summer blockbusters. For this episode, we dive head first into the 2001 cult classic: Wet Hot American Summer! We get into why Averyl hadn't seen it, how it's aged twenty years later, how there are SO MANY actors in this film (we probably missed some), reflect on our own summer camp experiences (or lack thereof), and more!
We're closing this season out with a BANG! For our season 2 final, we strap on some high heels, pour ourselves some bubbly, and mount that pole to discuss the 2019 classic: Hustlers. We get into why Hayley hadn't seen that, why it's more than just a "#girlpower" film, its realistic portrayal of female friendships, our collective LACK of sympathy for Wall Street bros, how sexy Usher, Frankie Valli, and the entire female cast are, plus lots more!
Thanks again to all of our guests and listeners! We love you, your support, and your suggestions. This season has been a long but great one and we're super stoked about our upcoming Summer Series...so stay tuned!!
In our penultimate episode of this season, we head back out to space (for the third time!) to discuss the Pixar classic: WALL-E! We get into why self-proclaimed Pixar fan, Averyl hadn't seen that, how the film predicted some of our current realities and is still a relevant warning on climate change, how the use of sound and lack of dialogue, surprisingly, add to the storyline and pacing, plus we breakdown our top five Pixar movies and imagine what life would be like an actual spaceship (hint: not that different from life on Axiom). Enjoy!
[We] made him an offer he don' refuse....that's right, we're back and talking The Godfather Part II with a very special guest: Averyl's own Godfather! We discuss why Hayley hadn't seen that, how it compares and differs from Part 1, the themes of self-betrayal and the search for legitimacy, plus lots of impressions and a mob story (hint: it includes a rug), and much more! Godere!!
With Passover and Easter in our midst, the power of Christ compels YOU to listen to this week's episode where we discuss the horror classic: The Exorcist. We explore why Averyl hadn't seen that (even though she's a horror fan!), why there's so much more to this film than what is typically referenced, how Chris is an unsung hero of the movie, how Father Karras is the OG "Hot Priest", and loads more!
