This is the first of three preview programs leading up to our quarterfinal playoffs in this, our 36th season of "Scholastic Games," our weekly high school quiz program featuring the schools of Lorain County, Ohio. The show is produced from January through May of each year. This program, which spotlights two of our quarterfinalists, is a rebroadcast of our highest-scoring program of the year, when the two teams achieved not only the highest winning score but also the highest losing score at the end of the contest. The schools are Avon High School from the northern part of the county and Black River High School from a district extending from a southern corner of the county down through parts of Medina and Ashland counties. We have come to call them the teams that won't go away: last year, comprised of mostly juniors, the teams similarly achieved the highest and lowest scores of the year early in a season that ended with a rematch in the championship (won by Avon). Back this year with only one graduated senior no longer among them, the two minimally-changed teams repeated their feat. Will they meet again in this year's championship? The only prediction we can make is that these teams will mostly graduate this year as they are now majority senior class members!
