On this week's episode we discuss the use of using social media to investigate everyday people people. I call it "Facebook Bureau of Investigations or F.B.I" and the phenomenon is running rampant impacting dating as people stalk social profiles, check likes, followers and tagged photographs all in an effort to learn about life through online personas.
Beyond some light hearted “internet getting to know you” this phenomenon becomes more involved when it relates to missing persons, police investigations and job security. This came to a head in the recent, tragic death of Kenneka Jenkins, a young woman who was found dead in a hotel freezer in metro Chicago. The case has inspired what the Washington Post calls “countless amateur sleuths to pore over what evidence has been made public, with speculative theories that the death was no accident” which drugged up conspiracy theories of rape, murder and deception. What are we to do with our investigative nature? How can it be helpful or harmful to us in connecting to one another.
