Julian is a great person to talk to because he immediately dives deep into the existential questions of science. He has thought so much about how his work and his science fits into the broader picture. His poetry, philosophy, and neuroscience background combine to make him really effective at what he does. Also, in this episode, he recommends that everyone take a metaethics philosophy course!

Hey, friends. I’m talking to my friend and colleague JD, and we spout a lot of platitudes.
As I say in the intro, I felt eerily similar to JD for a while, so much that I felt frustrated and competitive when we were in the same room. I’ve since moved on (I think), and as we settle into our lives as scientists, I want to remain his friend.
