  • KSC-018 Dr. Robert Cooperman, Conservative Playwright and Professor of English
Playwright Robert Cooperman has been involved with theatre for many years, both in his native New York City and in his current home, Columbus, Ohio. This year, he had the honor to have his play "Instaurito" --and last year to have his play “The Flower Stand”- selected for the New York New Works Theatre Festival. "The Flower Stand" was also produced as a winner of the Midnight Audio Theatre” script writing competition. His full-length play, “Kate ‘n’ Spence,” was produced by the Evolution Theatre Company in 2014 and he has had one-acts performed in New York and Columbus, most recently “Shut Up, Mr. Mandelbaum,” which was a winner of the ETC New Playwrights Festival in 2013. Four of Robert’s short plays have been selected for readings at the Cincinnati Playwright’s Initiative this fall. Robert earned his Ph.D. in English (with Drama as a specialty) from The Ohio State University and is an Adjunct Professor of English and Theatre at Ohio University, Lancaster. He is also the founder and Director of Stage Right Theatrics, a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) corporation that promotes conservative plays and playwrights. In January 2017, Stage Right Theatrics offered the Conservative Theatre Festival in Columbus, Ohio, which featured six new plays with conservative themes (including Mr. Cooperman's "Drop the Barvie!"). Aside from his interest in theatre, Robert is a connoisseur of parrots and an avid New York Yankee fan.

    DETAILS:
Stage Right Productions, Inc., a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization promoting conservative-themed plays and the artists who create them. Fancy IRS designations aside, I started this organization to give credence to a truly marginalized group of artists whose voices are systematically silenced. I’m aiming to change all that.
The whole idea of a conservative voice in theatre has, of course, been met with derision and scorn by the tolerant keepers of the arts in this country (and abroad). A number of years ago, Lisa Goldman, the artistic director of the Soho Theatre (London), commented thusly about conservative theatre: "What would a right-wing play have to offer? Anti-democracy, misogyny, bigotry, nostalgia of all kinds?" This silly, simplistic sentiment has been echoed incessantly on both sides of the pond and it continues to be the bludgeon by which the theatre world keeps conservatives at bay. In America, playwright David Mamet, upon announcing his conversion to conservatism in the aptly titled essay, "Why I Am No Longer a Brain-Dead Liberal," was immediately denounced and his canon re-examined. Is there no room for the conservative voice in theatre, even the voice of (arguably) our finest contemporary playwright?
I argue that there is ample room at the theatrical table for the conservative voice, just as there is for LGBT theatre, women’s theatre, Latino/a theatre, and a whole host of other voices that are presumably silenced yet always seem to be heard. I invite you to explore conservative theatre with me, a journey I have started with the presentation of the Conservative Theatre Festival in Columbus, OH on January 7, 2017.
The one message I hope to leave with my audience is simple: disagreement does not equal hate. ® Would that our adversaries understood this very obvious concept.

A few years ago, he started releasing his older, original works onto various media outlets which spawned a desire to write newer music. His love for the industrial sound is apparent in his creations. • KSC-016 Stephen D. Sullivan, published fantasy author, artist, and editor.
Hi! My name is Stephen D. Sullivan, and I’ve been working professionally in fantasy publishing as an author, artist, and editor since 1980.

    DETAILS:
I was a TSR editor and artist during the early days of Dungeons & Dragons, and I helped found Pacesetter Ltd., creators of CHILL and a bunch of other award-winning games. Over the years, I’ve written and created art for some of the best known properties in the world including Star Wars, The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Iron Man. For the past 25 years, I’ve been a freelancer most of the time (though I’ve occasionally taken a staff position to help pay the bills). I co-hosted Uncanny Radio — where I was known as “Manwolf” — with my friend Linda Godfrey, and nowadays I make occasional appearances on Vince Rotolo’s B-Movie Cast podcast.
An ultra-brief version of my life story goes like this:
I was born in 1959, grew up in Massachusetts, attended SMU (U. Mass, Dartmouth), and moved to Wisconsin to work on Dungeons & Dragons in 1980.
I’ve been here ever since, writing stories, drawing, gaming, raising kids with my wife (whom I’ve been with since 1980 as well), and taking on miscellaneous strange projects – like Uncanny Radio and Time Wankers.
I’ve had more than 50 books published (counting the anthologies and the ghost-written stuff only alluded to on this site) and written a boat-load of short stories. I’ve worked on more comics and games than I can easily count. Along the way, I’ve won some cool, prestigious awards. In my “spare” time, I also run a small publishing house, Walkabout Publishing.
As always, I’m happy just to be making a living (if you can call it that), doing what I love.

    DETAILS:
Game design Ken St. Andre first saw the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game in April 1975, and after deciding that the rules did not make sense, so designed a simpler game of his own. St. Andre eventually called his game Tunnels & Trolls, and printed 100 copies of the first edition in 1975. He asked Rick Loomis of Flying Buffalo to take 40 copies to Origins that July to sell; when every copy sold, Flying Buffalo picked up the rights to T&T later that year and published a second edition under their own brand in December 1975. In addition to writing the game rules, Ken was one of the creators of solitaire adventures which allowed players to experience the game without a game master or judge. St. Andre has written many modules and stand-alone adventures for Tunnels and Trolls.
St. Andre designed Starfaring, published by Flying Buffalo in 1976 as the first-ever science fiction roleplaying game. His third game, Monsters! Monsters!, was published by Metagaming Concepts in 1976, although Flying Buffalo got the rights to print a second edition in 1979. He also wrote the gamebooks Deathtrap Equalizer Dungeon and Naked Doom in 1977 after Loomis's own Buffalo Castle. He designed Chaosium's first licensed role-playing game, Stormbringer, in 1981.With Liz Danforth and Michael Stackpole, St. Andre designed the computer roleplaying game Wasteland, published by Interplay in 1988. Tunnels & Trolls was published in a new 5.5 edition in 2005 by Flying Buffalo, with new rules, background and variants by St. Andre. Fiery Dragon Productions published a heavily revised seventh edition in 2005, with revisions by St. Andre. St. Andre produced T&T adventures such as Hot Pursuit (2007). St. Andre continued to design T&T adventures for Flying Buffalo, including Khara Kang's Random Rainbow Maze (2010), Deep Delving (2011) and A Traveler's Tale (2011). In 2008, he modified the 7th edition Tunnels and Trolls to bring the game world into modern times and turned it into a superhero RPG called Power Trip.
In 1986, Ken was also the first editor for a fan club newsletter based around the Adventure Construction Set video game, one of the rare cases of a professional designer leading gamer activities for another designer's game.St. Andre was chosen by vote as a "famous game designer" to be featured as the king of spades in Flying Buffalo's 2014 Famous Game Designers Playing Card Deck.
My real claim to fame comes from having created TUNNELS AND TROLLS way back in 1975. Although it came out several months after the original Dungeons and Dragons, it was the first role-playing game in the U.S. to actually bear a copyright notice.
