Dear Listeners... We are back!
I. am. so. excited. to introduce Julianna Rose - the creator of Four Twenty Tarot , host of Original Pulls Creativity Workshops, all-around bad-freakin-ass, and it just so happens - my very first fellow Korean guest.
This episode was recorded back in September 2020 (what is time, even?), and I loved looking back at our very first conversation as we wondered where these kids found the audacity to approach Buffy, looked at what a hyena spirit animal actually might mean, and briefly discussed finding our own little corner of the Korean diaspora.
Both Julianna's output via Instagram @fourtwentytarot and my very own Four Twenty Tarot deck have ramped up my ability to just hear my own voice so I can know what I want + do what I want. As a result? Life's been pretty freakin rad, within the contexts of life still existing on this current not-so-great version of Earth. I've learned to speak more honestly to myself and to others; the rewards have so been worth the work required to just commit to being happy and alive... So here's a little snippet of the beginning.

London Daé (she/her) is a rapper, singer, teacher, and fellow Pisces who joined me for a conversation about Buffy the Vampire Slayer... that turned into a conversation that reminded me to take some time to re-focus. This episode was recorded a few weeks ago and I had carried the conversation with me. While I re-examine Buffy the Vampire Slayer for myself, I'm thrilled to bring your attention to this brilliant artist. Coincidentally, London's EP SUMMERTIME SADNESS, was the perfect collection of sounds to kick off these weeks of re-listening and remembering.

His latest project Apricot (co-creator) was selected for 2020's Slamdance, Outfest, Inside Out Film Festival and Nashville's Film Festival. It's his personal mission to illuminate the Asian-American experience on screen.
Jake joins me this week to discuss SEASON 1, EPISODE 10: NIGHTMARES
I was thrilled to meet Jake, a new fellow Asian-American friend who actually got me to open up about my own experiences growing up as a Korean-American. The hour flew by as we chatted about the actual nightmare that is 2020, how Filipino folks are more than just ‘the life of the party’ or ‘good at BBQ’, and how decolonizing our minds can include continuing to love Kirsten Dunst. I was also thrilled to see Jake rock an *a m a z i n g* Euphoria-inspired look for Scoobies of Color’s very first *intentional* video interview! I am so excited to start a video interview series - starting here in Los Angeles and hopefully other cities as we are safely able to do so. A few weeks back, the gracious @sakarisingh joined me for a video chat as a result of a tech hiccup. Not only did she make that interview a complete blast, she introduced me to Jake - who might look very familiar to those of us who love the Scoobies of Color logo. This interview felt so full circle, and I’m so, so very grateful to be spending my weeks talking to the most beautifully interesting folks around!

Dolly Li an award-winning independent video journalist, producer, and correspondent. She has played key roles in developing and launching several international digital publications, including Al Jazeera’s AJ+ English and AJ+ Español. In 2018, she co-founded the digital publication, Goldthread, and served as its content director, leading editorial, creative, and social media strategy. Dolly has experience reporting domestically throughout the U.S. and internationally from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China. She navigates stories in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Spanish.
This week, Dolly joins me to discuss Season 1, Episode 8: I, ROBOT... YOU, JANE.
In this episode, we discuss who Moloch would be if he existed in 2020, the different international perceptions of government surveillance, and how the non-Giles of the world are getting their stories seen and heard in a time where there is just so much content to consume from 2020’s “idiot box”. Swipe left to see the clip of Prince that Dolly mentioned and included at the end of the video “Buying Food with Facial Recognition in China.”
I am so thrilled to have had a chance to chat with Dolly here, and we can find more of her thoughts on Twitter (@dollyli) or on her weekly podcast/Instagram Live show @listentoplumradio!

Dr. Jen Gupta (she/her) is an Indian/British astrophysicist who completely blew my mind as she not only explained how physics ties into the Buffyverse (!!) but also as she chatted with me about how we see different sides to Cordy through our watches over the years, how the Bronze is actually not that weird of a concept for our international listeners with different drinking ages, and how really ableist our day-to-day language was in 1997 and can still be today in 2020.
If you wondered what it would sound like if a California stoner talked to a posh British astrophysicist about Buffy the Vampire Slayer… This would be it!
