Lou tells their emotion-filled story of childhood memories that shaped how they think and feel about grief and death. Amongst the tragic events of their past, Lou wonders if their relationship with grief and death charges a certain spiritual connection between them and their late fathers. They will continue to investigate and ask questions.

Part 1 details Lou's experience learning about death at a young age and how that shaped their perception of themselves and their family as they grew up. It leads Lou to ask a big question: What happens after we die?
