In today's episode, we speak with Scott Hyder, a retired Police officer from Boston, USA.
Scott’s PTSD started to take hold after a series of 911 calls gone wrong. One of the calls, Scott thought was an accidental dial, a not uncommon occurrence, turned out to be the homicide of a 16-year-old girl. It was Scott who unexpectedly found the body. Two years later his brother took his own life and Scott discovered the body. Scott says it was unexpected occurrences like this that affected him deeply and triggered PTSD.
After retiring from policing, Scott founded Hidden Battles, a not-for-profit organization that strives to help returning solders and first responder veterans with PTSD and other mental health struggles.
In this episode, Scott talks about the experiences that triggered PTSD, how his PTSD affected the people around him, the challenges of asking for help, and how he lives his life to the fullest even with PTSD in the mix.
“Not expecting the worse, I actually started to search the house and I stumbled across the body's and that was very traumatic to me because I wasn't prepared for it mentally” - Scott Hyder on this episode of Wellbeing
