A newlywed couple traveling across the country has car trouble and stops in a small town for repairs. She leaves him to go have lunch. When she comes back, her husband, the mechanic, and the garage are gone.

You're just in time to join me for an adventure in suspense and terror, the most heart -stopping terror of all. Not the terror of the eccentric, the grotesque, or bizarre, but the chilling terror that slowly emerges when one discovers that all the standards, the laws, the customs that have so naturally governed our existence have suddenly been revoked or repealed and no longer apply gone are the familiar the everyday usages which regulated life in a comfortable predictable flow and you are suddenly confronted with a living nightmare of chaos and anarchy.

There are men who give more solid thought to the choosing of a car than to the selection of a wife. There are girls who will take more time and care in deciding on a fall outfit than in picking a husband. Who is to blame? A good deal of it can be placed on the shoulders of society, which somehow tries to imply that marriages are made in heaven. This being the case, why bother being too careful down here below? At any rate, let us consider this extremely attractive newly married young couple driving along a super highway near a Midwestern city.

An out-of-work actor concocts a scheme to fake his death and then "play" his wife in order to collect the insurance payoff.

A mother and father rent an expensive apartment for their daughter who is coming out of a bad relationship and an abortion. She is soon consumed by the spirit that inhabits the apartment.

Do come in. Make yourself comfortable, because I'm going to tell you... a nice quiet little ghost story. Nothing to frighten you. Not badly, at any rate. Nothing to make you run screaming into the street. No, the most this ghost story can do is make you snuggle down deeper under the covers and reach out for a hand to hold. A hand I trust that is firm and warm, not clammy and cold.

I myself have never met a ghost. I don't know why. Perhaps something in my personality puts them off. But if ever I should, I hope you'll do something more than moan and sigh and clank chains. What I should really enjoy would be a nice chatty ghost. Would sit down and talk things over. Things like whether the life after death is really pleasanter than the one before. And if it is, why is it? Things like that. Things that only a ghost would know. Ah, well. Perhaps one fine day or some dark night, if I hold myself in readiness, my ghost will visit me. Meantime, relax, won't you? And listen.

Episode 0097 "Mirror For Murder"

A woman tired of living in her husband's shadow and playing second fiddle to his job, believes her reflection in the mirror. She must rediscover her sense of self.

Once again, It's time for that journey through the world's most mysterious landscape, the complex mind of a human being. What does the mirror show you? Does the mirror know more than appears on the surface? How deeply can it probe? Consider a lady named Helen Stewart.

Future historians will look back on our times, and they will, of course, give them a name. It's fairly safe to assume that our era will probably be called the Age of Women. Women are no longer content merely to cook and clean and care for a man. Some women are quite vocal about it. However, these are not the ones to cause us concern. Men should worry about those quiet ones. For instance, Today it's breakfast as usual at the home of Fred and Helen Stewart. This means that although it's not even eight o 'clock, Fred has already been on the phone for the better part of an hour. But on this particular morning, quiet, uncomplaining Helen Stewart does something shocking. She suddenly reaches over and for no apparent reason disconnects the telephone.

Episode 0096 "The Bleeding Statue"

A magician speaks to his heirs from the grave via tape. When he disappoints most of them by leaving his entire estate to his daughter, he promises her protection via a statue in the courtyard.

Welcome to the exciting world of your own imagination. The live body, muscles rippling, seems suspended in air, twisted in its last agony. The goat legs flexed in their last spring. The beautiful boy's face transformed by a snarl of agony as the arrow bites through the back flesh to bury itself deep in the heart. This is a legendary bronze statue called the Dying Fawn. Legendary in more ways than one.

What is more mystical than a statue? The wounded fawn. No one is sure that it was not originally chiseled in marble. That the bronze we know today was not taken from a long -lost original. Where it comes from, no one knows. Where it was perhaps best known to the public at large was in its last appearance, or disappearance, on the stage of the Palace Theatre as the climax of the farewell tour of prior Abbott, the Merlin of the Magicians.

Once again, be my guest on a strange journey. A weird, wild trip through a mysterious, uncharted terrain bounded only by your imagination. There's an expression, the night of the long knives. And it has come to mean an orgy of murder. And it usually follows a rebellion. or a civil war. It's a time when many of those on the winning side take the opportunity to settle some personal scores.

We're about to discover one of those little-known, out-of-the-way restaurants where the food can only be described as heavenly. It's a safe bet. You've never heard of a place called Mama Pilar's. It is located in a tiny seaport village called Puerto San Jorge in an obscure Latin American country. It's a long way to travel for dinner, but be assured, it's worth it. Mama Pilar's doesn't look like very much. It's small, dark, narrow, but don't let that put you off. Seated at hisusual table near the door is a chubby, pleasant looking middle-aged man named Siriaco. Siriacois unable to talk, but his guitar speaks for him. Tonight, the only customers in the place of Pete and Marge Miller. And they are obviously young, North American, and newly married.

Welcome again through the creaking door. The sound which always signifies the beginning of another tale of danger and suspense. Being in the mystery business, our fables often deal with crime and criminals. This time, it's a thief. But a thief with a very definite difference. For Ruth Moody is a lady who walks into department stores and simply helps herself Simply because she can't help herself Yes You've heard of her peculiar ailment. It's called kleptomania the neurotic impulse to steal But kleptomania isn't the only trouble in store for Ruth.

We're in Barnett's department store in the downtown shopping district. And if it looks and sounds like a battlefield this morning, it's no different from any other Saturday. Well, maybe a little more so since Barnett is running its semi-annual clearance sale Just as it does every other month. It's the ideal place and time for bargain hunters and unfortunately for shoplifters.

Episode 0092 "The Forever Man"

A young loser is offered free cars, apartments, and money in exchange for his body. An old millionaire wants to "trade souls" with him so that he can have a young body again.

Welcome once again to the shadow world of mystery and suspense, to a dark and

cryptic universe called the imagination. When we were young, we liked to believe

there are things money cannot buy. You know, things like love, happiness. But as

we grow older and learn more about the world, well, we're not so sure. As matter

of fact, many of us even begin to believe that the only thing money cannot buy

is a fresh new body and a chance to live another lifetime. Well, don't be too sure of

that.

All of our great religions agree on one important point. The soul leaves the body

after death. However, from time to time the question has been raised, Can the soul

leave before the body dies? Philosophers have considered the point, and as usual in

these matters, have reached no consensus of opinion. Actually, they found it difficult

to define just exactly what the soul is. Well, we're about to meet a young man named

Jackson Hanley, who will soon become intimately concerned with the problem even

though no one has ever accused him of being a philosopher. He has, however, often

been accused of other things, which is why our story opens in what is a rather familiar

locale for Jack Hanley, a police station.

An actor is tormented through the television set by the ghost of a dead producer who wants him to kill his widow.

Perhaps you've come to look upon me as the master of the macabre, your escort to the eerie. And in all honesty, I can say that I am happy you have this opinion of me. I'll admit to an affinity for tales of the supernatural and even a sneaking fondness for ghosts. Some ghosts, that is. I cannot say that I have liked every ghost I have met. Because in my experience, there can be some very unpleasant ghosts, like this one.

There are many stories about faceless voices that speak to lonely people. Voices that come from nowhere. that threaten, cajole, terrify, or madden the mortals who hear them. Our story is about such a voice, but it is a voice that has a face, the face of a dead man. Most of us know what to expect when we turn on a television set, but the last thing Jason Phillips expected was to have the face of a dead man appear on his television tube.

"The Empty House" is a famous ghost story by the British author Algernon Blackwood. The short story was first collected in the 1906 anthology The Empty House and Other Stories. In the story, a man accompanies his adventurous aunt to a notorious house where, a century ago, a servant was murdered by her jealous suitor. As the two visitors spend the night exploring the dark, empty rooms, it becomes more and more apparent that the house has not forgotten the old tragedy.
