12 HOUR SHIFT MOVIE REVIEW

“12 Hour Shift”, the latest feature from actor turned writer/director Brea Grant, is best described as a gritty screwball comedy. Angela Bettis (May) is in peak form as Mandy, a strung out nurse who subsidizes her drug addiction by hastening the deaths of mortally ill patients as part of an illegal organ harvesting scheme. When her dim witted cousin Regina (Chloe Farnworth) misplaces a stolen kidney, Mandy has to scramble for a replacement before the Arkansas mob comes calling. Bodies start piling up when the impatient Regina poses as a nurse and takes matters into her own hands. Working a long shift at a hospital with too many patients and not enough staff is already stressful but now Mandy has to find another victim to harvest a kidney from, while staying one step ahead of the hospital staff, police officers, and a mob enforcer. On top of that, Mandy has to deal with a coma patient she has a personal connection with, while (literally) cleaning up Regina’s mess. Did I mention there’s also a homicidal escaped convict (David Arquette) roaming the corridors of the hospital? It’s going to be a very long, very bad night for Mandy, but our reviewers Adrian, Matt, Jordan, and Marco enjoyed their time on this darkly funny shift.
