AMMONITE MOVIE REVIEW

From Writer/Director Francis Lee (“God’s Own Country”) comes the latest addition to the period-set lesbian romance drama genre, “Ammonite”. Set in the 1840s, we follow acclaimed paleontologist Mary Anning (Kate Winslet) as she begrudgingly takes a new protégé under her wing, but when he’s whisked away on business, he leaves his despondent wife Charlotte (Saoirse Ronan) in her care to possibly bring her out of her funk from a recent personal tragedy. Left alone, the two begin to bond and see that despite their personalities, they can discover something about each other. How well does this movie relate to the actual people portrayed?
