BECKETT MOVIE REVIEW

While the title of this film might leave you thinking of the early 2000’s Ted Danson sitcom “Becker”, “Beckett” is actually Netflix’s newest on-the-run action and naturalistic Euro drama. Greece isn’t exactly a diverse country. 98% of the population is Greek, while the remaining 2% is pretty much everyone else. So, you’d think a black man running for his life would stick out just a bit more, but luckily(?) for Beckett, while he’s running for his life because he’s witnessed some things he shouldn’t have, him being black doesn’t really come into play. So, progress? John David Washington plays Beckett, an American on a driving trip through the Greece backcountry with his girlfriend, April (Alicia Vikander). The two of them are very much in love and enjoy looking at strangers and creating backstories for them; April’s always managing to turn salacious and Beckett’s always remaining rather innocent. But that innocence isn’t meant to last. The duo is touring the remote parts of Greece after being warned of political unrest due to a politician’s son being kidnapped and the protests escalating outside their Athens hotel. Following a terrible car accident, Beckett finds himself at the center of a dangerous political conspiracy and the unlikely target of a manhunt. He is forced on the run in a foreign country, trying to uncover the hows and whys before it’s too late. Beau, Chad, Trevor, and T.C. are here to discuss the good, the bad and who prefers “Beckett” or “Becker”.
