BEHEMOTH MOVIE REVIEW

What do you get when you take a visual effects guy who has worked directly with George Lucas and James Cameron, has done F/X for films like Marvel movies, “Avatar”, the Harry Potter films, and who has decided to be writer/director on his own horror film? In this case, unfortunately, you get “Behemoth”, a creature feature loaded with admittedly deeply impressive (especially considering the budget) CG and practical work pasted into a barely developed bottle-story with flat characters. The tale follows Joshua, a man who worked for a giant chemical company for years (whose name is an unsubtle play on DuPont) but when his daughter gets sick, he becomes a whistle-blower, as he’s sure it’s the company that made her ill. He confronts his old boss at a protest with two of his friends and things get out of hand when on the spur of the moment, they decide to kidnap him. With no plan of what to do next with their uncooperative and not terribly scared hostage, Josh seeing demons and monsters popping up everywhere, and with a Terminator-level unstoppable bodyguard on their trail, things are not good. But neither is the movie. Listen to Chris, Matt, Marcos, and Lewayne do their best to be as nice as they can (they are not good at that either).
