BLITHE SPIRIT MOVIE REVIEW
In this reimagining of the classic Noël Coward play, Dan Stevens plays Charles, a once successful writer now desperately trying to plug his way through a screenplay adaptation of his first novel. His wife Ruth (Isla Fisher) doesn’t know quite how to motivate him but worries that his reticence might be tied to him not being quite over his first wife Elvira (Leslie Mann) who had died suddenly in an accident years earlier. When a medium (Judi Dench) is invited to their home for a seance, despite not having much luck without the use of trickery in the past, she somehow connects to the spirit world and opens the door for Elvira to come back. Sort of. As a ghost (but not the spooky kind) only Charles can see her and he is flabbergasted. Not as much as Ruth is though as Elvira slowly begins to gain more control over her surroundings and there’s no doubt that this is actually happening. But Charles is of two minds: On one hand, Elvira was his muse and with her back, she’s guiding him through being able to write again. On the other hand, she’s kinda trying to kill Charles to get him to be with her. Goofy slapstick ensues. While this was firmly trounced critically on the whole, Chris, Frank, Brad, and Santiago found a good deal to like about it.

Christopher Lawrence Cox (Founder, Da Boss)
Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, in 1992 Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas, where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal” turned into a full-time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site Spill.com, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. During this time, a fortuitous friendship sprung up between Chris and young Brian Salisbury, who was also a local film critic, and they merged their forces of will, and their laundry list of ideas for shows, to eventually build this paradise you see before you. Frank Calvillo (Highly Suspect Reviews, Screener Squad)
Born and raised in South Texas, Frank currently lives in Austin and has been in love with movies ever since his father showed him some Three Stooges shorts when he was five years old. Today he loves all kinds of film, regardless of era, country, budget or genre. He believes every film has an audience and is at least one person’s favorite movie. After writing for Sight & Sound and Slackerwood, he now writes for Cinapse where his increasingly random taste in all flavors of cinema (from Rashomon to Mars Attacks!) continues to thrive. His ultimate goal is to write a script for his boyhood crush, Michelle Pfeiffer.
