DON’T TELL A SOUL MOVIE REVIEW

Just in case you thought 2020 was too filled with too much cheer and happiness, this January 2021 release is like ‘hold my beer’. This feature is part psychological thriller, part horror, part action, and all sorts of upsetting. Joey (Jack Dylan Grazer) is a young naive boy who gets taken advantage of by his bully of a brother Matt (Fionn Whitehead), as well as by a shady security guard named Mr. Hamby (Rainn Wilson). Watch as they commit crimes to try to help their mother (Mena Suvari) with cancer. In case this sounds too optimistic, throw in a lot of lies and big hole no one can escape from. Join Adrian, Lewayne, Marcos, and Robert as they tell you all about the movie “Don’t Tell A Soul.”

Though born and raised in Chicago, this film critic is Mexican to the bone. Adrian has been watching movies since he was a child, many of which might not have been age appropriate. Lewayne’s earliest memories are of watching movies and reading comics, which instilled in him a sense of wonder, a vivid imagination, and unrealistic expectations. It also means he spends a lot of time watching movies, writing scripts for them, and trying to get them made. Me? I come from the South, Out there, beyond the horizon by the big river. Out there where the bandits formed cities, and the gambling is legal. I got into movies like most nerds by watching Tarantino but fell in love with movies through Chinese Cinema for some reason. If it weren’t for sad music and scary stories I wouldn’t be as well-adjusted and cheerful as I am today. Moonlighting as a musician off and on since adolescence, I am as big a fan of scores and needle drops as I am of slow zooms, production design, and third act exposition. Just about all of my screen time is spent on international horror, drama, and hour long episodic.
