EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE MOVIE REVIEW

Everything Everywhere All at Once is the latest film from writing-directing duo Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (billed collectively as Daniels). Michelle Yeoh stars as Evelyn, a Chinese immigrant who runs a laundromat with her milquetoast husband Waymond (Ke Huy Quan in his first film appearance in over 20 years!). The Wang family is rounded out by estranged teenage daughter Joy (Stephanie Hsu), and Evelyn’s elderly, disapproving father Gong Gong (James Hong). During a meeting with an exasperated tax auditor (Jamie Lee Curtis in full frumpy, scene stealing mode), Evelyn is contacted by a Waymond from another universe. This more assertive version of Waymond tries to convince Evelyn that not only is her life in danger, but that the fate of infinite universes is in her less than qualified hands. What happens next must be seen to be believed, but trust us, it’s a LOT. Does the movie live up to the hype, and can it exist in a universe where it’s both a critically acclaimed arthouse film, and a box office success with mainstream audiences?
