GOOD LUCK TO YOU, LEO GRANDE MOVIE REVIEW
Let’s talk about sex, baby. Let’s talk about a woman named Nancy. Let’s talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be. Let’s talk about sex. But hold on. This isn’t some lewd review about some porn. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. No shaming here. Nope, this sex positive film from Sophie Hyde (Animals) stars Emma Thompson as Nancy Stokes, a retired school teacher. She is yearning for some adventure in her rather mundane life, and what better way to spice up one’s life than with some sex? She has a plan, which involves hiring a young sex worker named Leo Grande, played by newcomer Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders). Nancy nervously explores herself with Leo as she embodies the candor and apprehension of a woman who’s never had any lust in her life, while Leo personifies the charisma and compassion of sex workers. As Nancy embarks on a post-marital sexual awakening, and Leo draws on his skills and charm, together they find a surprising human connection. Sarah Jane, Melina, Frank, and T.C. talk about sex to the people at home or in the crowd. It keeps coming up anyhow. So, they aren’t coy, and they don’t avoid, or make void the topic. Cuz that ain’t gonna stop it. They tell it how it is, and how it could be. How it was, and of course, how it should be. Those who think it’s dirty, have a choice. Pick up your phone, press pause, or turn the review off. Will that stop us? I doubt it. Let’s talk about sex.

Melina Eames (Screener Squad)
Melina first discovered that she carried the nerd gene at the tender age of four following her exposure to a little film called A New Hope. In the twenty-some years that followed, Melina continued to grow into her geek identity through the discovery of Batman, Mst3k, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and The Mandalorian. But perhaps her most significant discovery came at the age of fourteen when a night of YouTube mining led her to the review site of Spill.com. Melina became a devoted follower whose fandom did not end with the site’s demise. By then, it had worked its dark magic and left her with a love and appreciation for film criticism that she has yet to shrug.
