I LOVE MY DAD MOVIE REVIEW
I Love My Dad is a story about Franklin (writer/director James Morosini), a young man struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. To aid his recovery, Franklin cuts all negative influences and toxic people out of his life. Specifically, that means his ne’er do well father, Chuck (Patton Oswalt). Despite being a loser and a compulsive liar, Chuck genuinely loves his son. When Franklin blocks him on Facebook, Chuck spirals into despair. Desperate to stay in touch with his son, Chuck creates a fake profile based on Becca (Claudia Sulewski), a young waitress who works at the diner Chuck frequents. At first, Franklin is suspicious of this pretty stranger with no other friends on Facebook, but he’s lonely, so he accepts her friend request.. Posing as “Becca”, Chuck is finally able to connect with his son, and they become online friends. Things take a turn for the worst when Franklin starts falling in love with the fake “Becca”. Afraid of losing his son again, Chuck continues the charade, even as Franklin’s feelings towards “Becca” become increasingly sexual. That’s right. This is a movie about a father who catfishes his own son, and then has to keep the lie going when the son decides to take the “relationship” to the next level. Before you know it, sexting is involved, and Chuck is driving Franklin to another state so he can finally meet “Becca” in person. Squicky hijinks ensue. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, but mostly you’ll cringe. Actually, you’ll cringe A LOT. Our reviewers Ryan, Melina, Harmoni, and Marco certainly did. Listen to their review to see whether this movie is worth all the showers you’ll need to take after watching it.
