MANK MOVIE REVIEW

This new David Fincher film, adapted from a script from his late father Jack, is a look at Herman J. Mankiewicz (Gary Oldman), a journalist, drama critic, and eventually a screenwriter (and script fixer) which is where “Mank” picks up. Injured and bedridden after a car accident, Mank is approached by Orson Welles about “Citizen Kane” and he gets to work, in between extensive drunken sessions, on writing it. The story flashes around in time detailing his relationships with William Hearst, Marion Davies, Louis B. Mayer, John Houseman, Irving Thalberg, and an array of other luminaries of the time as Mank struggles with the script, with the politics of Hollywood at the time, and his own responsibilities. Suffice it to say, “Mank” is a movie stuffed with ideas (and characters) and our crew had a lot to say about it. Listen to Chris, Marco, Alexander, and Jordan give their thoughts.
