MONSTERLAND TV SERIES REVIEW

Hulu’s new horror anthology series is eight hour-ish episodes of monsters. And not always of the fangs and teeth variety. Sometimes the monsters are us. Ok, usually the monsters are us. Yes, this is one of those shows that uses its genre as a springboard to talk about social issues. Or, as Mindy, Chris, Dogget, and Mark would have it, it’s a show about social issues that eventually gets around to remembering to have a monster. With a stellar cast, and cinematography, everything seems like this would be a win, but our critics had some strong thoughts about what went wrong.

Christopher Lawrence Cox (Founder, Da Boss)

Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, in 1992 Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas, where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal” turned into a full-time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site Spill.com, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. Danny Dogget (Screener Squad)

Hey persons, it’s your favorite canine Dogget! As many of you know, I don’t identify as a critic as much as a classy shock jock. Mark Prince (Screener Squad)

Mark Prince is a lifelong nerd so old he remembers the first edition of Dungeons and Dragons, the original Star Wars in the theater, and comics that cost a quarter and could be found on racks in the local apothecary. By day, a mere human services worker, by night he emerges to combat boredom, master the vagaries of the B grade television serial, the C grade cinematic release, and to ever assist his fellow man, as well as to master, once and for all, the Shoryuken Dragon Punch with ever stiffening thumbs.
