NO ONE GETS OUT ALIVE MOVIE REVIEW

It’s October, that magical month when pumpkin spice gets added to everything, Spirit Halloween Stores appear overnight, and Netflix drops scary movies faster than we can review them. The streaming giant’s latest entry in the horror genre, “No One Gets Out Alive”, is a socially conscious chiller based on a novel by Adam Nevill, author of “The Ritual”. The movie centers around Ambar (Cristina Rodlo), an undocumented Mexican immigrant struggling to survive in Cleveland. Desperate for affordable lodging, Ambar agrees to rent a room in a dilapidated old building. The creepy landlord Red (Marc Menchaca) only rents to single, undocumented women; one of the most vulnerable and marginalized groups in society. Payments are cash only, no visitors are allowed, and the basement is strictly off limits. Ambar spends her days working in a sweatshop, terrified that she’ll be deported before she can earn enough money to buy forged documents on the black market. By night, she is haunted by visions of her past, hears frightening noises coming from somewhere in the building, and sees spectral figures in the dark shadows of the house. Is Ambar losing her mind to stress and anxiety, or is there a more sinister explanation?
