NO SUDDEN MOVE MOVIE REVIEW
Some filmmakers spend their retirement relaxing and enjoying their hobbies. Then you have Steven Soderbergh who retired from making movies so… he could make more movies? Regardless of whether he qualifies for senior discounts or not, Soderbergh has only grown more prolific during his supposed “retirement”. His latest feature, “No Sudden Move” is a noir throwback set against the backdrop of 1950s Detroit, a factory town roiling with racial injustice, corruption, and the pervasive influence of the automobile industry. Those themes mostly linger in the background, though. The actual story involves Curt (Don Cheadle) and Ronald (Benicio del Toro), a couple of low level criminals who are hired by parties unknown to hold a family hostage. Meanwhile, milquetoast husband Matt (David Harbour) has to steal a top-secret document from his office at General Motors. Once the document is delivered, Matt and his family will be set free. Naturally, things don’t go according to plan. Realizing they’ve been set up, Curt and Ronald go on the lam, taking Matt with them. Deciding to cut out the middlemen who set them up, they decide to find the document and sell it directly to the client themselves. All Curt and Ronald have to do is stay ahead of two crime bosses, corrupt captains of industry, the FBI, other people with their own agendas and, of course, each other. What follows is a deliberately confusing narrative of gangland rivalries, personal grudges, corporate intrigue, and double and triple crosses. Our reviewers Adrian, Trevor, and Marco agreed to take the case. They know exactly whodunnit but did they dunnit well? LIsten and find out!

Adrian El Critico (Screener Squad)
Though born and raised in Chicago, this film critic is Mexican to the bone. Adrian has been watching movies since he was a child, many of which might not have been age appropriate. Still, he couldn’t get enough. All throughout his life, friends and family would look to him for his recommendations and reviews on whatever films had come their way. Inspired earlier in life by the likes of Ebert and Roper at The Movies and then later Spill.com, Adrian decided film criticism and analysis provided a great outlet to further his love of film. He began to craft his reviews and thoughts on film in ways he thought would be accessible to devout film hounds as well as the casual viewer. Mixing in jokes, entertaining observations and robust critical analysis, Adrian El Critico may be new to OneOfUs, but he is already making a name for himself on our site. If Horror movies are your thing, get ready to hear his voice.
