RUN WITH THE HUNTED MOVIE REVIEW

Writer/director John Swab gravitates towards grim tales about people on the margins of society, and his second film “Run with the Hunted” is no exception. It revolves around Oscar; a good kid who commits murder to protect his best friend. Fearing the consequences, Oscar runs away from home and joins a gang of juvenile delinquents who teach him how to survive on the mean streets of Tulsa, OK. Flash forward 15 years later and Oscar (Michael Pitt) is a career criminal with his own gang of street kids, a neck tattoo, and a truly awful haircut. If that wasn’t bad enough, Oscar’s childhood friend has been conducting her own private investigation into his disappearance all those years ago, and that puts Oscar on a collision course with a corrupt cop and Oscar’s own mentor, a local crime boss played by Ron Perlman. With a solid cast of veteran character actors, and a strong regional flavor, there’s a lot of potential in this Midwestern take on the Oliver Twist story, but did our reviewers find it artful, or should you dodge it altogether?
