TED K MOVIE REVIEW

Ted K recounts the true story of Ted Kaczynski, better known to the world as The Unabomber. For seventeen years, Kaczynski mailed bombs across the United States, seemingly at random. In 1996, the FBI finally caught up to Kaczynski, who was living in a 10×12 shack in the woods of Montana without electricity or running water. What he did have was bomb-making equipment, a manifesto, and over ten thousand pages of encrypted notes documenting his crimes, grievances, and his own descent into madness. Ted K is neither a typical biopic nor a procedural drama. Instead, it’s a character study told entirely from Kaczynski’s increasingly unstable point of view, narrated verbatim from his journal entries. As Kaczynski, Sharlto Copley (District 9) gives a committed performance in what is essentially a one-man show about a disturbed, Neo-Luddite recluse waging a terrorist campaign against the industry and technology. Melina became a devoted follower whose fandom did not end with the site’s demise. By then, it had worked its dark magic and left her with a love and appreciation for film criticism that she has yet to shrug.

 

 

Chad Halvorsen (Screener Squad)

Chad Halvorsen currently resides in Milwaukee, WI, where he produces and edits commercials, films, and everything in between. He was always a fan of film/television growing up, spending days in the Summer, making (terrible) home movies with his brothers. Little did he know that passion would carry on into adulthood. Since 2006, Chad has worked for several agencies in various departments. Shooting, producing, editing, production management, directing, and when forced to, writing copy.
