THE BUNKER GAME MOVIE REVIEW

If you’re not in the know, LARPing is Live Action Role Playing. If you’ve ever seen Role Models, starring Paul Rudd, or Marvel’s Hawkeye series, you’ve seen a fantasy scenario of a LARP. People dress up in costumes and play their characters, affect voices, don weapons, and wear detailed costumes to fit the fictional world. It’s playing pretend in the park or backyard or basement with a budget. In The Bunker Game, a group of LARPers is playing out a rather interesting scenario: Nazis won World War II, and it’s a post thermonuclear war world where the Fourth Reich lives in bunkers. Sooooo… Rae, Lewayne, Trevor, and T.C. find themselves wondering just who exactly they’re supposed to root for in this slasher film because the monster is a spectral entity killing LARPing Nazis. Go specter, right? After several mysterious accidents, this Live Action Role Playing game is interrupted and the players leave the bunker while the staff remains behind to investigate the disappearance of Greg, the mastermind of the game, as a paranormal force begins to stalk them, picking them off one by one. The squad finds things to agree on in this feature directorial debut from Italian-Indian documentarian Roberto Zazzara, but most of them were left asking why this movie even exists.

Lyrae Anderson (Screener Squad)
You can call me Rae. You can also call me a film lover. I’ll watch it all — small screen; big screen, and everything in between. I have attended and worked for Fantastic Fest and South by Southwest for many years. I married a film geek as well. While we don’t agree on everything, we agree on our love of movies.

Lewayne White (Screener Squad)
Lewayne’s earliest memories are of watching movies and reading comics, which instilled in him a sense of wonder, a vivid imagination, and unrealistic expectations. It also means he spends a lot of time watching movies, writing scripts for them, and trying to get them made. He lives in the middle of middle America after landing there as a child, and has remained there mainly because he hates packing.
