THE GREAT TV SERIES REVIEW

Hulu and The Favourite co-writer Tony McNamara decided to tell an ‘occasionally true story’ with The Great. The story follows the origins of eventual Russian empress Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning) as she is married to the current emperor Peter III (Nicholas Hoult). However, her idealized life of joy and change is shattered when she realizes Peter is a vulgar, sexist, violent man child whose court is a bacchanalian mess. Eventually, Catherine decides that the only way to bring about change is to overthrow her husband. However, organizing a military coup will prove harder than she expected. Justin, Rose, and Mindy took the time to explore this anarchic satirical comedy version of Russian history…and their responses were all over the place.
