THE LAST MATINEE MOVIE REVIEW

Just when we thought it was safe to go back to movie theaters, someone had to come along and ruin it. No, not those guys… Well, them too… But, in “The Last Matinee”, it’s a black-gloved, knife-wielding, killer who decided the Opera Cinema was the place to murder and mutilate a handful of people one rainy night. Reluctantly, Adrian El Critico leads Trevor and Lewayne in a discussion of this retro-Giallo homage/dopamine-trigger from Uruguay. Along the way, the guys ponder whether there are enough throwback movies yet, if eyeballs actually crunch when you chew them, and what the hell is up with the geography of the theater. So, check out the review to see if this movie is a feast for the eyes, or if you’ll want to gouge them out, instead.

Though born and raised in Chicago, this film critic is Mexican to the bone. Adrian has been watching movies since he was a child, many of which might not have been age appropriate. Trevor T. Trujillo is a One Of Us contributor in addition to being the co-host, co-founder, and co-producer of the Nighthawks Podcast. Trevor’s 17-year media career spans multiple arenas including television, radio, podcasting, and online journalism; and he is currently the editor-in-chief for a regional online news provider in the Rocky Mountain West. Often a nomad, Trevor has found himself “at home” in places like Austin, Texas; West Hollywood, California; and throughout central and southeastern Wyoming. Lewayne White (Screener Squad)

Lewayne’s earliest memories are of watching movies and reading comics, which instilled in him a sense of wonder, a vivid imagination, and unrealistic expectations. It also means he spends a lot of time watching movies, writing scripts for them, and trying to get them made. He lives in the middle of middle America after landing there as a child, and has remained there mainly because he hates packing.
