VAL MOVIE REVIEW

He was Batman, Iceman, (not) Elvis, The Lizard King, and your Huckleberry. He’s played a Saint, a prophet, quite a few sinners, a porn star, and a bunch of cops and crooks. According to IMDB, since his screen debut in “Top Secret,” he’s been in at least a project a year nearly every year since 1984. So, where the hell did Val Kilmer go? Turns out, if you’ve got a couple hours, you can see for yourself, thanks to the new, documentary, “Val.” Once Kilmer got a video camera as a young man, he was apparently never without one, and having reached a pretty significant turning point in his career, he’s chosen to share some of that footage, narrated by his son, Jack. Melina, Ben, Drew, and Lewayne had a chance to review the result, and they’ve got a few things to say about the doc, and about Kilmer, both as an artist, and a person. Check out the review, and see whether or not this was just a vanity project by a fading star, or an intimate portrait of someone consumed by art.

Born in Boston, then ending up in Dallas, Texas in the early 2000s, Ben has always had a passion for film. He started in film school not long after where he launched MovieReelizations.com where he still writes reviews to this day. He’s since moved to Austin where he has been also hopping on podcasts and both editing and shooting videos for One of Us. A fan of films from almost all genres, and many that predate him more than makes sense, he is anything if not eclectic in what he’s watching at any point. Drew Tinnin is a Rondo Award nominated interviewer and critic who has worked at SiriusXM’s Fangoria Radio and Fangoria magazine in NYC, as well as the London-based Dazed Digital. Lewayne White (Screener Squad)

Lewayne’s earliest memories are of watching movies and reading comics, which instilled in him a sense of wonder, a vivid imagination, and unrealistic expectations. It also means he spends a lot of time watching movies, writing scripts for them, and trying to get them made.
