WEDNESDAY SERIES REVIEW

They’re creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky, and all together on Netflix. Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, follows the title character as she attempts to solve an ancient mystery from the time of buckled hats and witch burnings. The secrets are all hidden within the walls of her new school that was previously attended by her parents Gomez (Luis Guzmán) and Morticia Addams. She’ll have plenty of help from her  fellow classmates which include werewolves, vampires, gorgons, and a bee keeper named Eugene (Moosa Mostafa). Wednesday will also have to navigate the treacherous choppy waters of the most dangerous kind of triangle. We aren’t talking Bermuda. Tyler (Hunter Doohan) the son of the town sheriff fancies himself some goth chicks and has the hots for Wednesday. Also the troubled tall, dark, and handsome artist Xavier (Percy Hynes White) has his eye on our heroine and may be the key to unlocking her newly budding psychic abilities. Meanwhile the queen bee of the school Bianca (Joy Sunday) is tired of this gothic psycho getting all the attention from the hot dudes in the school. Did I mention that this wasp happens to be a siren? Much like the popular CW series Riverdale, these teens and their brooding drama is smack dab in the middle of a murder mystery that their towering, tyrannical Principal Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie) has deemed a Hyde Hoax. Bradly, Harmoni, Dogget, and Frank discuss their favourite Addams through the decades, contemplate what works and what doesn’t about this murder mystery at a Fantasy School setting, and use the powers of precognitive dissonance to predict if Netflix gives season to a green light or an axe.
