ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE REVIEW

It’s here! After years of hashtags and speculations, the Snyder Cut is out on HBO Max for everyone to see in its four-hour long, R-rated, 4:3 aspect ratio glory. What’s the synopsis of this movie? Well…it’s both exactly the same plot as Joss Whedon’s Justice League and yet it’s very different in small but significant ways. Steppenwolf, henchman to the galactic dictator Darkseid, has come to Earth to find the Mother Boxes, powerful machines that can terraform Earth to emulate the atmosphere of Darkseid’s home world Apokolips. Having had premonitions of this threat, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) begins his quest to assemble a team of the world’s finest heroes to stop this invader. While watching the movie, Wright, Mike, Jennifer, and Justin were curious over whether this director’s cut would be be a legitimate improvement over Whedon’s version or if it would be a overstuffed monstrosity people feared it would be. And in a way…it’s kind of both. Listen here to see who championed this film as a symbol of hope for the DCEU and who felt it underlined the franchise’s greatest flaws.

Wright hails from the northern suburbs of Dallas, Texas. His passion for filmmaking brought him to Austin to study and make movies. Justin’s fate as a movie fanatic was written in the stars when his birth forced his parents to cancel their planned Oscar viewing party. While growing up in California, he was often seen in front of the television watching and re-watching Star Wars, Jurassic Park, classic Disney movies and a steady stream of animated shows. This eventually led to a B.A. in Film at Brigham Young University and an Outstanding Student Teacher Award for displaying a level of film knowledge so insane that even his fellow film students couldn’t compete. He received his M.A. from Syracuse University and is currently pursuing a teaching certificate, but still volunteers at One of Us every so often for the fun of it. His hobbies include non-stop film conversations, wondering how Mass Effect 3’s ending went so wrong, espousing the joys of shooting guns (but not hunting, as he’s quick to note), writing the next great American television show in his head, and anything else entertainment related.
