Ever seen a toddler have a moment with a statue? A tender moment with a hug? Or possibly a conversation? Earlier today I saw a video of a toddler hugging a statue of the Virgin Mary, and it made me think of how Zen and Christianity refer to children in some of their stories and in zen how a child’s mind relates to a “zen mind”. In this episode of our Scriptures and Parables segment we go over the idea or concept of being like a child, to do so we read a few passages from the Douay Rheims Bible and we read a few zen parables to highlight how Zen and Buddhists see children as being of pure mind or clean mind, and how Christ used a child as an example of the greatest of the kingdom of heaven in humility. A pure mind and extreme humility, could these be related? Let’s explore the stories and a little of their meaning and ultimately, in the end, I’ll let you decide...
