Adam vs. Jesus (Romans 5:12-19), continued:
Romans 5:18-19 – Adam performed his transgression, and it introduced condemnation to all men. Christ performed His act of righteousness (His sacrifice) and it introduced justification to all men. Neither of these happen automatically! See Romans 6:12. Compare Hebrews 5:9.
Grace reigns (Romans 5:20-21)
When God reveals a law, such as the Law of Moses, it shows people what they are doing wrong. They may not have realized they were sinning, but now they do. See Romans 3:20; 7:7.
Choice (Romans 6-8)
Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound (Romans 6:1-14)?
No! We repented and decided to die to sin. How could we go back to it?

Tongues were…
Real languages
Acts 1:6; 2:1-11

Glossa “tongue” (Acts 2:4, 11) vs. dialektos “language” (Acts 2:6,8)
I Corinthians 13:1 – Some argue they are speaking the tongues of angels, and thus, not to be understood. That is not the point Paul is making here.
To edify through understandable communication
I Corinthians 14:1-26 – If you speak in a tongue no one understands, you are not edifying others. Tongues were for a sing to unbelievers. Prophecy was a sign to believers.
Able to be controlled
I Corinthians 14:27-33 – Things were to be done in an orderly manner. “The spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.”
Limited to the first century
I Corinthians 13:8-10 – The spiritual gifts would cease, but love never fails. The “perfect” in I Corinthians 13:10 is teleos, meaning “complete.” When the full revelation of God was available (i.e., the full New Testament), spiritual gifts would go away. Spiritual gifts were like the scaffolding around the New Testament.
Compare Biblical teaching with modern-day practice
Is it a real language?
It is edifying others in the assembly because it is understandable communication?

No modern-day tongue-speaking is in the first century.

Where does immodesty lead?

It can cause us to lose our soul.

Seeing immodesty is nearly unavoidable, but if you keep looking, that leads to trouble.
The pornography industry is massive. Pornography will enslave you if you allow it enter your life.
Consider one’s self
James 1:14-15 – It is our own lust that causes us to sin.

Convictions to hold
Be determined not to sin.
Hebrews 10:26-39
We might be afraid we can’t handle the temptation or that we will miss out on the pleasure of sin.

I Corinthians 7
At that time, the disciples were in a period of great difficulty.
I Corinthians 7:9 – Some try to misuse this verse to defend multiple marriages, but that is taking the verse out of context.
I Corinthians 7:12-16 – If a person has an unbelieving spouse, they should stay with them. If the unbelieving spouse decides to leave, the Christian should let them go. In that case, Paul says that God calls them to peace and they are not required to fulfill marital obligations. This does not mean that the Christian spouse can now remarry, however.
“Bondage” – Compare other uses of the same Greek word:

I Corinthians 7:15
I Corinthians 7:25-26 – See Revelation 14:4. Paul here is referring to male virgins.
I Corinthians 7:35-37 – The translation here is somewhat difficult. Paul could be referring to a man protecting his own virginity. The NASB translation supplies added words to interpret this as a man protecting his virgin daughter, but that does not seem to match the context.
I Corinthians 7:39-40 – Marriage is for life. Re-marriage is only approved by God after death of a spouse or for the innocent party in adultery. The phrase “only in the Lord” means “according to God’s law.” It is not saying the new mate must be a Christian.

Introduction
I Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind
Jesus had to deal with His confused, immature apostles (Matthew 16:8).
Is not jealous (does not envy)
Jealousy never leads to good (Acts 5:17-19; 7:9)
Romans 12:15 – Rejoice for those who do well.
Does not take into account a wrong suffered (resentful), bears and endures all things
Think of the harm you do to yourself by holding a grudge (Proverbs 19:11).
Matthew 18:15 – You can’t just ignore sin. That’s different from enforcing some personal type of justice.
Luke 4:28-30 – When people wanted to kill Him, Jesus just left!
Love does not brag (boast), is not arrogant, does not seek its own (insist on its own way)
If we’re fixated on ourselves, we can’t humbly serve others (Matthew 20:20-28).
Does not act unbecomingly (rude), is not provoked (irritable)
Don’t go around with a chip on your shoulder (I Samuel 25:3, 10-11).

He loved us when we weren’t lovable.

Why does God treat us the way He does? Out of love!

God knows all our secrets and faults, but He loves us anyway!
Hebrews 8:12 – God shows us mercy and forgiveness.
It only makes sense to love Him back.

Genesis 4:15 – It does not say the mark of Cain was light or dark skin.
Numbers 12:1 – It does not say it is sinful to marry a Cushite woman because she was dark skinned.

Deuteronomy 7:6-9 – It does not say white men are to be superior.
