We’re back, and we’re going global. With Will and Richard calling in from Rome, we had our first Scottish player, @hamishwatson07, on the pod for a chat this week. We discussed his origins at Oakham and Leicester Tigers Academy, before moving onto dabbling in Sevens. We heard about his mixed emotions surrounding his Scotland debut when they lost to Italy, but also talked about moments of pure elation and joy in beating England at Murrayfield. Warzone has been a popular pastime in lockdown, despite Hamish having a dubious loadout. Thanks for listening, and as always - spread the word. #scrum #bass #pints #IPA #Kilkenny #CamdenHells #timothytaylorslandlord #lager #rugby #rugbylife #rugbyunited #podcast #podernfamily #isolation #rugbypod #houseofrugby
Archie Curzon, a.k.a. the CEO/Chief Chat Officer of Clapham, a.k.a. the Magician, came on the pod this week to talk rugby, beers and business. He had some top chat. We discussed the famous Clapham Falcons and some of the chat that the boys have been having in lockdown. We talked about how to keep one's rig in order during lockdown: broccoli, egg whites and chicken, as well as of course a RigBiz run; that's a five mile run whilst listening to a business podcast. We also asked Arch about his perfect Saturday: playing rug, chopping pints and getting women at Infernos. And also, if any of you want some gap year plans, listen here to find out. Spread the word.
Former England international and current commentator and pundit, David "Flats" Flatman, joined us on the podcast this week. He had some great stories, including many a laugh about his first England tour to South Africa - something that involved port and a golf buggy... We chatted about his life playing rugby, and then his journey to commentary. Listen for many a class story, some awesome opinions and a good laugh. Please share and spread the word.
First in a series of Scrum and Bass Shorts (don't know where we got the idea from... cheers Payno). We just decided to look back on the past few weeks, reviewing the players we've had on, discussing the rugby news of the past few weeks (cheers Umbro...) and talking about the rugby to come, especially in the form of Super Rugby Aotearoa which starts ASAP. We talked about the best/worst kits in the history of rugby (let us know your thoughts via Instagram DMs @scrumandbass), and discussed names for the homebrew; if you have any more inventive beer names, do slide us a DM. Oh, and I almost forgot, we revealed the guest for next week - listen to find out. A man with many a funny story I'm sure; very much looking forward to next week. As always, thanks for listening, give it a share and spread the word.
England and Saracens back row, Ben Earl, joined us on the pod this week. We discussed life at Sarries: the close bond they have and also the aftermath of the salary cap fiasco. We chatted about Bristol Bears being on the horizon, and also his path in an England shirt: U16, U18, U20 and senior. Cricket was a popular topic of chat, including Zak Crawley's broken jaw, and we also discussed potential facial hair. Give it a listen, share it around, and spread the word.
England and Harlequins fly-half, Marcus Smith, came on the pod for a chat this week. We discussed life at Quins, especially the wittiness of Joe Marler, as well as the leadership of the senior players. We heard about his rugby journey as well; what childhood rugby was like in Singapore, what it was like to come through the England age-groups, to train with the Japan national team when he was at Brighton College, to later train with the England team when he was still at Brighton, straight after his A-level Maths exam, and then going on to play for England and Harlequins. We talked about the free time of a rugby player; chilling with some Fortnite and COD. Give it a listen and spread the word.
Hear England and Northampton Saints fullback, George Furbank, reveal all about the England Rugby Camp: who has the best/worst chat? Who's the best on a night out? What's it like playing for England? What was the initiation for England? We chatted about life at Northampton Saints and also about his personal life - TikToks, Beyonce and moustaches. Give it a listen, share it about, and spread the word.
