Anxious thoughts are a common experience for all of us. Every person, regardless of age, gender, or background, has faced, or will face, anxious thoughts at some point in their life. Even Jesus, who was perfect and sinless, faced anxious thoughts, such as when he prayed in the garden of Gethsemane and asked the Father if the cup of suffering could be taken from him. But, he ultimately submitted to the Father’s will and expressed, “Not my will, but thy will be done”.
For some of us, our anxious thoughts stem from our past. Maybe we experienced a tragedy early in life, or were a victim of child abuse. Perhaps we witnessed a horrific event unfold before our very eyes. Or, perhaps we have done something in the past that we cannot forgive ourselves for and it haunts us every day.
