Psalm 119:81-88 81 My soul longs for your salvation; I hope in your word. 82 My eyes long for your promise; I ask, "When will you comfort me?" 83 For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke, yet I have not forgotten your statutes. 84 wHow long must your servant endure?1 When will you judge those who persecute me? 85 The insolent have xdug pitfalls for me; they do not live according to your law. 86 All your commandments are sure; they persecute me with falsehood; yhelp me! 87 They have almost made an end of me on earth, but I have not forsaken your precepts. 88 In your steadfast love give me life, that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth.

"Understanding the Holy Spirit as Our Helper," explored Jesus' promise in John 14:15–26 that his followers would never be left alone. We examined the word Parakletos, describing the Holy Spirit as our Helper, Counselor, and Advocate who remains with us forever. We emphasized his work of teaching us, bringing Jesus' words to remembrance, guiding us into truth, and directing us in God's will for daily life and ministry. The Spirit bears witness to Jesus and glorifies him, helping us understand and apply his Word. We also saw that while Jesus intercedes for us at the Father's right hand, the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness and intercedes according to God's will. These promises encourage us to listen to his counsel, depend on his presence, and respond in loving obedience.

If you have God's Word…turn with me to Mark 10. If you'll remember… last week… we began discussing the account of a young man… who lost his soul! It was a story of a young man… who had so much going for him. But in the end…he lost it all! And as we took a look at this young man last week… we spent time looking at his desire. What was his desire? He had a desire for eternal life. And if you'll remember… we said that outwardly…this was a fine young man! And when Jesus Christ… began reciting… the ten commandments to this young man…what did he say? "Teacher, I have kept all these from my youth." This young man was yearning for the truth! He wanted to know…truly…how to inherit… eternal life! He had a desire… that he knew only Jesus could fulfill! But the thing I want to focus on this morning… is not the desire he had… but I want us to see the decision he made.
