Read Luke 15:11-22
1) When have you been most content in life? What circumstances allowed you to feel this way? Likewise, when have you been most discontent and what circumstances created that feeling?
2) In Luke 15:11-12, the younger son is so discontent with his life that he believes his father is standing between him and happiness. Have you ever felt that something was standing between you and the life you’ve always wanted? What was it and how did you handle that perceived obstruction?
3) Think about your life right now and fill in the blank: “I’ll be happy when _________.” Will you ever be happy if this doesn’t come to be? If not, then what do you need to adjust about your life to remove yourself from the grips of discontentment?
4) Read 1 John 1:8-9. In the Parable of the Lost Son, the younger son confessed his sins to his father, even though his father already knew what they were. Why is confessing our sins, (including the ways we’ve looked for contentment elsewhere), an important aspect in our relationship with Christ?
5) Read Philippians 4:11-13. Paul states that the key to be content in any situation, whether with much or with little, is a relationship with Jesus Christ. How can a relationship with Christ lead to the ultimate contentment?
