Listen Later

In today’s social climate, it’s more important than ever that Asian Americans are using their voice to stand up to social injustice and advocate for change. In the last few weeks, our nation has witnessed some of the most unjust acts of violence against Black people. We’ve seen the impact of COVID-19 and the anti-Asian racism become more contagious than the virus itself. Hate is rampant and social injustice is evident more than ever. This week we bring on Betina Hsieh, the Director of Teacher Education and Professor of Education at La Fetra College of Education at the University of La Verne. She focuses her work on teacher education, teacher identity, and Asian Americans and literacy. Betina shares how she uses her own voice in the education space to elevate the perspectives and experiences of Asian Americans while also being an ally to the Black community and other people of color. *Note: This episode was recorded before the killings of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, but the message is more relevant than ever.
