William Dixon: Apprentice Lads of Alnwick
I found this Twitter Thread somewhat helpful in understanding some parts of what is going on in Belfast:
1733: William Dixon’s Apprentice Lads of Alnwick
1774: Walker Jackson: Jackson’s Humours of Panteen, Jackson’s Nightcap, Jackson’s Morning Brush
James Aird Vol 3: Jackson’s Night Cap: It seems like Aird Copied Jackson’s Book Note for Note, so I don’t play this as a separate tune but you can see it here:
1774: Walker Jackson: Jackson’s Dream
1808: O’Farrell: Jackson’s Dream
1774: Walker Jackson: Cummilum
1785: Sutherland’s Cummillum an Irish Tune: Tune number 136 on Page 70:
1800: O’Farrell: Cummalum with Variations
1808: O’Farrell: Trip to Kilarney You can look at this just to see how similar it is to the Variations O’Farrell put into Cummalum:
1734: David Young: Drops of Brandy (page 23 of PDF)
1854: Angus MacKay: Drops of Brandy & Isle of Skye Local Militia’s March
1828: Donald MacDonald’s Far awa’ Wedding
Here are some of the Playford Tunes from the 1600s that people think are a grandfather of Drops of Brandy:
2006:Matt Seattle’s (Old) Drops of Brandy: This is Matt’s own setting based on several historical accounts, beginning with David Young’s. It appears in Over the Hills and Far Away
