SEC Basketball RUNS THROUGH The State of Alabama | Auburn, Alabama Conference Play Preview (EP. 1)

Listen Later

Conference play is right around the corner and SEC Basketball is going to be INSANE this season! According to the AP Poll, Auburn is ranked No. 2 and Alabama is ranked No. 5 heading into the first season of SEC Play. Both the Tide and Tigers had INCREDIBLE non-conference schedules, so we first discuss players who have EXCEEDED and NOT YET MET our expectations. At Auburn, it was hard to decide! Denver Jones, Georgia Tech transfer Miles Kelly, and true freshman Tahaad Pettiford were all names that came to mind. Across the state in Tuscaloosa, Auburn transfer Aden Holloway and true freshman Labaron Philon have caught our attention early on! We’re still waiting for JP Pegues, Cliff Omoruyi, and Jarin Stevenson to break out. Auburn walked out of it’s hardest non-conference schedule in program history with only ONE loss to Duke at Cameron indoor. Do you agree that IOWA STATE is Auburn’s best win this season? Houston? Memphis? Georgia State? Alabama walked out of their non-conference schedule with 2 losses to Oregon and Purdue. Illinois stood out to us because Mark Sears, your offensive weapon, scores 0 POINTS and you walk away with a W. The overtime win at Houston came in at No. 2 and Creighton at No. 3. Quad 1 wins are IMPORTANT when it comes to seeding for the NCAA Tournament and luckily for both Auburn and Alabama have PLENTY of opportunity for Quad 1 wins. Both Auburn and Alabama currently have 13 opportunities to add a Quad 1 win to their resume and 5 opportunities to add Quad 2 wins to their resume. Auburn opens up conference play with Missouri in Neville Arena this Saturday — Missouri has an older, veteran roster and ranks first in the country in bench points. Playing clean defense and keeping Missouri off the Free Throw line will be important for the Tigers on Saturday. Alabama opens up conference play hosting Oklahoma, one of the only 3 remaining undefeated teams, on Saturday in hopes of giving them their first loss of the season. While they’re currently unbeaten, the Sooners Strength of Schedule is ranked 222nd, so Alabama will be their first big test.
