Sec. Hegseth addresses questions about deadly boat strikes

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has addressed questions regarding a controversial September 2, 2025, military strike on an alleged drug-smuggling boat in the Caribbean Sea, which resulted in the deaths of survivors after a follow-up strike was ordered. During a cabinet meeting, Hegseth defended the mission, stating he "did not personally see survivors" when he watched the initial strike live and invoking the concept of the "fog of war".
