The etymology of character is quite telling. The word comes from the Greek kharakter for "engraved mark," "symbol or imprint on the soul," and "instrument for making," and can be traced further back to the words for "to engrave," "pointed stake," and "to scrape and scratch." In the 17th century, the word came associated with "the sum of qualities that defines a person. These qualities include man's intellect, thoughts, ideas, motives, intentions, temperament, judgment, behavior, imagination, perception, emotion, love, and hate. The character I built kept me safe during my encounters in the streets but that mindset can keep you trapped in a cycle of negativity if you do not take the time to change the way you are and or think. This a sad reality for many who rather stay stagnant in growth and not take a journey in pain to change for themselves and their family.
