This Sunday we’re going to continue our series Into the Night by looking at when the shepherds are called in the night to share the news about Christ. This story is so powerful. Why does God go to them first, making them the first evangelists? The least likely, common, uneducated, and unreliable people in society are chosen to carry this message. We believe it is because they had boldness. They were willing and ready to share the news with everyone.

This passage in Luke 2:8–20 is so rich. We will see how the angels respond in worship with their voices, and the shepherds worship with their feet as they go and make known the Savior. Jesus calls everyone to participate in sharing His good news of great joy for all people. The question is this: are we participating? Regardless of style or personality, who are we sharing Jesus with? The oldest news is the best news. It never grows old, and people need Jesus. God’s love is not ours to distribute as we see fit, and now is a great time to share. Fifty-six percent of people say they would go to church at Christmas if someone they knew invited them. Will we?

The shepherds were in the night doing their normal, mundane work when the angels showed up and called on them. We believe God calls on all of us. Will we respond with that same boldness to share? Maybe life feels boring right now, and maybe that’s because we’re not sharing Christ. Just a thought.
