In this episode, I’m visiting Bucklers Hard on the Beaulieu estate – just a short distance from Palace House, Beulieu Abbey and the National Motor Museum. The first Earl of Sandwich, the branch of the Montagu family which I married into, is known worldwide because he was head of the Admiralty and brought King Charles II back from exile. But it’s now wonderful for me to visit Beaulieu and discover the rich maritime links of another branch of the Montagu family.

I’ll be meeting with the Hon. Mary Montagu-Scott who has a lifelong passion for the maritime history of Beaulieu and is a keen sailor. Mary shows me the replica timber framed shipwrights workshop which she masterminded. And my husband Luke and I will be cheering on our 17 year old son, William as he and Mary set sail on the Beaulieu river.

I have been visiting my great friends the Coryton family at Pentillie Castle in Cornwall. In this final episode from Pentillie, I will be taking a bracing dawn dip in the River Tamar, and getting my workout for the day in the clock tower. Time certainly doesn’t stand still at this 17th Century Castle.

In the final instalment of my current visit to Pitchford Hall in Shropshire, I explore the vast attics and see a hidden structural treasure from Pitchfords medieval past. I hear how the Edwardian summer house has been lovingly restored and join the party to celebrate the completion of a very special restoration of the library. And will I manage to stay afloat when I take to the water in a traditional fishing boat!
