May 12, 2024The role of security in Eastern Europe: what are the implications for security in the ‘new’ normal? In discussions about what security looks like in this new world, the focus has been dominantly on the experiences of a relatively small number of countries. One region that has largely escaped attention has been Eastern Europe; this webinar helps to fill the void. We will examine what has been happening to security, how it has been adapting and what it sees as the new challenges and opportunities. Crucially we will look at what the learning points are for this region and for all others too. In this webinar we will:• Discuss the response of the security sector to the crisis in Eastern Europe• Consider how the new normal will impact in security• Examine how the rest of the world may learn from this much under considered areaPanellists:Gabriel Badea – Chairman and CEO at Global Security System SA (Romania)Dima Budanov – CEO at Elite Security Holding Company (Russia)Viktor Panchak – General Director at SK Security (Ukraine)Boyko Mitev – Chief Security Consultant at Sevar Security (Bulgaria)A video and summary of this session is available here: https://www.theospas.com/2020/09/23/the-role-of-security-in-eastern-europe-what-are-the-implications-for-security-in-the-new-normal/Sign up to the Security & Risk Thought Leadership Newsletter and Event Updates...more47minPlay

May 12, 2024The Effective Management of Security Incidents: is security maximising its potential? There has been a growth of different mechanisms around the world for the initial notification and management of security incidents, but there has been relatively little discussion about the pros and cons of the best ways of doing so effectively. Arguably this is the crucial stage of security response, ineffectiveness here can be severely detrimental as to how well security (technology and personnel) can respond. This webinar will discuss:• The different approaches to initial incident management (such as Alarm Receiving Centres/Monitoring Centres/Intelligence hubs)• The benefits and drawbacks of different approaches• The potential futures of incident managementChair: Professor Martin GillPanellists:Suzette Po-Williams – Customer Service Manager, Central Monitoring ServiceSamrendra Mohan Kumar – Co-founder & Managing Director, MitKat AdvisoryPaul Miller – Managing Director, National MonitoringA video and summary of this session is available here: https://www.theospas.com/2022/11/11/the-effective-management-of-security-incidents-is-security-maximising-its-potential/Sign up to the Security & Risk Thought Leadership Newsletter and Event Updates...more45minPlay
May 12, 2024The role of security in the Healthcare sector during Covid-19Guest Chair: Rajiv Mathur – Regional Advisor, Asia, The OSPAs (India)Pandemics generally, and Covid-19 is no exception, throw everyone involved in any aspect of healthcare provision onto the frontline. In previous webinars we have heard how this causes difficulties for groups like security who have an important role in protecting healthcare assets when the focus is understandably on patient care. The notion that security is everyone’s responsibility is undermined by a bigger focus; and as we have heard this provides ripe targets for offenders who are typically quick to adapt. The availability of Government funding (in some countries at least) for healthcare products, rushed through because of the demands for an urgent need to protect people and rarely with the normal and required level of due diligence is providing offenders with more easy targets. This webinar will discuss:- The range of new and different problems that healthcare management & security professionals have faced during the crisis- The relationship between security professionals and others during the crisis and the changes and opportunities resulting- The roles of healthcare security professional as we transition to the new normalPanellists:Anil Puri – Chairman & Managing Director, A P SecuritasDr. Parinita Kaur – Consultant – Internal Medicine, Aakash Healthcare Super Speciality HospitalRajesh Sawant – Head of Security, Surveillance and Fire Safety at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani HospitalA video and summary of this session is available here: https://www.theospas.com/2020/09/16/the-role-of-security-in-the-healthcare-sector-during-covid-19/Sign up to the Security & Risk Thought Leadership Newsletter and Event Updates...more48minPlay
May 12, 2024Disruptions in the supply chain: what are the (security/other) problems, and where can we look for solutions?Guest chair: Rinske Geerlings – 2019 OSPA Finalist, Founder and Principal Consultant at Business as UsualOne of the features of modern supply chains is organisations working together as supply chain partners. As a consequence they become dependent on each other. Disruptions then can have far reaching implications, not least for business continuity. When this happens organisations hurriedly seek new partners sometimes without the time for due diligence. Then there is the tricky issue of inter connected systems, great when things are going well but when they go wrong? Then there is the business consideration of choosing to work with a single supplier to get a better price and the dangers of being dependent if that supplier fails. These are just some of the issues that can occur, in this webinar we will discuss:- How do we create resilient hubs to cope with disruptions?- What are the cyber implications when supply chains break down?- What are the trade-offs between good business and good security in efficient supply chains?Panellists:Zalina Jaflus – Consultant at Sterling and former Head of Risk & BCM at Malaysia Airports (Malaysia)Chris Mahoney – Business Integration Practice Lead and Mining Supply Chain Partner at Bedrock (Australia)Sicco Santema – Director at Scenter, and Professor of Supply Chain Management at Delft University of Technology (Netherlands)Hans van der Sluijs – Project Manager at Hutchinson Ports Rotterdam ECT (Netherlands)A video and summary of this session is available here: https://www.theospas.com/2020/09/11/disruptions-in-the-supply-chain-what-are-the-security-other-problems-and-where-can-we-look-for-solutions/Sign up to the Security & Risk Thought Leadership Newsletter and Event Updates...more50minPlay
May 12, 2024Are private military companies part of the private security sector? Why are they different or are they?Guest Chair: Dr. Glen Kitteringham – Security Consultant, Educator and Research Criminologist (Canada)To some, using the term private military company is simply a new term for an old occupation: mercenary. However, some believe they are part of the private security industry? Part of the issue is that there is no agreed upon terminology and many conflate the two. What is the difference between them? Are similar services offered by both? Should there be a difference? What we do know is that in both cases we can find highly trained and expert personnel, and also largely untrained, underpaid poorly deployed people. This webinar will discuss:- What are the differences between private military companies and companies in the private security industry?- Is there adequate control of private military companies? If not what should be done?- Do we need to more clearly distinguish between the two groups? If so how?Panellists:Dr. Declan Garrett – Director of Security Institute of Ireland (Ireland)Oana-Mihaela Mihalache – Defence and Security Consultant at Sopra Steria Next (France)Maria Nebolsina – Research Fellow at Center for Euro-Atlantic Security of International Studies Institute (Russia)Adam White – Senior Lecturer in Criminology at University of Sheffield (UK)A video and summary of this session is available here: https://www.theospas.com/2020/09/09/are-private-military-companies-part-of-the-private-security-sector-why-are-they-different-or-are-they/Sign up to the Security & Risk Thought Leadership Newsletter and Event Updates...more48minPlay
May 09, 2024The role of security associations: a failed resource or a fundamental vehicle for a better security sector?*50th Episode*Covid-19 is preventing face to face contact – one of the key benefits of belonging to an association. So, have associations outlived their usefulness? After all there is an abundance of free webinars. Moreover, one of the key impediments to progress has been the failure of the security sector to speak with a unified voice or provide a single reference/contact point, does the multiplicity of associations serve to further fragment the sector? Are too often security associations in competition to the point that collaboration becomes a danger rather than an objective? After all there are multiple similar certifications (generating perhaps a conflict in standards), competing tradeshows/conferences in an ever-tight market. Furthermore, do they serve the interests of those in countries where there is wealth at the expense of those who are poorer? Or is effective support of security associations the key way to a better, more informed, and engaged (locally, nationally and internationally) security sector. Are associations already leading from the front and need to be better understood and supported? All these views have emerged in previous webinars; in this webinar we will debate these issues and specifically focus on:- Have security associations in their existing forms outlived their usefulness? - Has the competition between security associations got in the way of effective collaboration and served to further fragment the security sector?- Are security associations the key route to progress? If so, what does that look like?Panellists:Liz Chamberlain – Executive Director – International Security Management Association (ISMA) Julio Fumagalli Macrae, CPP – President at GlobalLifeSafetyAlliance.org Guy Mathias – Chair at The UK Security Commonwealth Peter J. O’Neil, FASAE, CAE – CEO at ASIS InternationalA video and summary of this session is available here: https://www.theospas.com/2020/09/04/the-role-of-security-associations-a-failed-resource-or-a-fundamental-vehicle-for-a-better-security-sector/Sign up to the Security & Risk Thought Leadership Newsletter and Event Updates...more1h 1minPlay

May 09, 2024The Impact of Covid-19 in Nigeria: what has been the impact and the security response?Nigeria has a thriving security sector, but like the rest of the world it is facing a crisis that is demanding new ways if thinking and new ways of working. And like the rest of the world it is having to adjust at fast place. Yet there has been little research to indicate how things are progressing. There is little doubt that in times when people are concerned about survival, and can’t see a way out, social disorder is not far away. Sometimes this expresses itself in communities, sometimes in companies. And crime is changing and that is posing additional burdens or the security sector and its clients.● What challenges are emerging for the security sector in the next stage of coping with Covid-19?● How has the security sector been doing: a success or failure?● What factors will most influence the development of security in Nigeria and how can they be influenced?Panellists:Dr. Kabir Adamu - MD, Beacon Consulting LimitedTanwa Ashiru - CEO, Bulwark IntelligenceEngineer Mustapha K.A. May 09, 2024The security sector and the harms caused by Covid-19: What have we learned so far?Covid-19 has had a dramatic impact in so many ways, and those working in the security sector have had a front row seat on the anxieties that have been unfolding. We have all witnessed deaths (including a disproportionately high number of security officers), illnesses, bankruptcies, unemployment, mental health issues, and the consequences of these and many other factors will be felt for years. In this webinar we will be examining some of the harms caused and which have and are involving security personnel, either directly or indirectly and we will examine what the short-term and longer-term consequences are. This webinar will examine:Which harms are directly impacting most on security professionals and why and how?Which harms are impacting on security professionals in the environments they serve and protect and why and how? What are the best practices that can be followed, what can be learned from what is happening globally?Panellists:Matt Hopkins - Associate Professor at University of Leicester (UK)Anne Wanielista - Project Management Consultant, Action Woman (Belgium)Thomas Uduo - Corporate Security Trainer - ICEST (Nigeria)A video and summary of this session is available here: https://www.theospas.com/2020/08/28/the-security-sector-and-the-harms-caused-by-covid-19-what-have-we-learned-so-far/Sign up to the Security & Risk Thought Leadership Newsletter and Event Updates...more46minPlay
