Mark 2:1-17

This week, continuing in the Gospel of Mark, Katie dives into the the forgiveness of sins that comes with the arrival of the Kingdom of God. In this portion of scripture Jesus forgives the sins of a man. Is this the outrageous work of a mere man as the pharisees suppose or does Jesus actually carry God's authority to forgive?

Discussion Questions:

1. As Christians we believe that Jesus' death on the cross has paid for our sins, once for all, and that we have been justified by God, through faith and not works, and stand before God cleansed of all unrighteousness because of the blood of Christ. Considering this truth, do you think living a life of ongoing confession and repentance as followers of Jesus is important? Why or why not?  
2. Do your prayers of confession tend to be more general, as in “God forgive my sins” or do you get more specific, honestly allowing God to bring conviction to your heart, and specific actions, words, attitudes, or omissions, pouring them out before God, and allowing him to heal and cleanse those areas? What difference, if any, do you think this kind of detailed confession would make in your life?

Mark 1:21-45

As we walk through the ministry of Jesus as told by the gospel of Mark, Katie Twitchett digs deeper into what it means to be a disciple as was understood in Jesus' day - to follow so closely the steps of your Rabbi that you become covered in the dust that He kicks up, learning in a hands on manner.

Discussion Questions:

1. What is a major life lesson (or skill, etc) that you learned through hands-on experience that you wouldn’t have learned otherwise? 
2. In Mark 1, the disciples observe Jesus demonstrating his authority, showing compassion, and withdrawing to pray. Of these characteristics of Jesus and his ministry which one speaks to you most right now? How so? 
3. How could you practice being with, and becoming like Jesus in the characteristic you chose from above this week?
4. WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Make a measurable, attainable and practical plan for the above mentioned practice.

Mark 1:14-20

Continuing in our Mark series, Katie brings us a message based on the same message that Jesus preached at the beginning of His ministry as He called His disciples: "Repent and believe the good news!" Katie digs into what it really means to repent as Jesus calls us to do.

Discussion Questions:

1. Peter’s instinct was “Go away from me, Lord,” but Jesus’ response was “Do not be afraid.” Have you ever had a similar experience in your relationship with God? How so? 
2. What could it look like for you to move toward Jesus this week? 
3. WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Practice a simple breath prayer (example: “Come Holy Spirit, have your way”) this week, first thing in the morning, and throughout the day when you think of it.

Mark 1:9-15

An introduction to the Gospel of Mark

Continuing with Seedling's New Year's tradition, Katie kicks off our annual series of going through one of the four gospels. In 2026 we will be going through Mark. Katie builds us a foundational starting point to better understand the book of Mark before we fully dive in.
