  • CNIB project wrap up & animal welfare webinar

    On this episode of the Seeing Eye Dogs Show we are joined by two guests:

    • Kezia Gray puppy raising supervisor at CNIB Guide Dogs (Canada) is back on the show! We spoke to her when she arrived in Australia to help support Seeing Eye Dogs' volunteers raising CNIB puppies in Australia. Now she is back talking about how the project went, and for a status update on the puppies who have now all travelled from Australia to Canada to continue their journey to become dog guides.
    • Kylie Gersh learning and development lead and instructor gives us an overview of animal welfare and how it can be assessed and improved to give you a sneak peek of what you can look forward to at Seeing Eye Dogs' next webinar.     On this episode of the Seeing Eye Dog Show, Harriet is joined by Seeing Eye Dogs handler Monika Volpi and her Seeing Eye Dog Windsor (who doesn't say that much!). Monika shares some of the stories of her adventures with Windsor, about some amazing travels and walks they go on.   • Colleen Ashby and Xian handler story

    Special guest Colleen Ashby comes on the show to talk to us about her life with Seeing Eye Dog Xian, her story and the book she's written and had published.

    Seeing Eye Dogs handler Colleen published her book I Can See Clearly Now: The Soundtrack of My Life in 2021. It's now available on the Vision Australia Library in DAISY audio, on Audible as an audio book, on Booktopia as an eBook or audio book, or Amazon as a paperback.

    In the book Colleen talks about her life from getting her heart transplant and losing her vision, to getting Xian to achieving her swimming goals. She shares some of her story with us on this show, but read her book for the whole story!

    For the last aired show for 2021, we're joined by Ron Hooton CEO of Vision Australia to talk about the year in review at Seeing Eye Dogs and what we can look forward to in 2022.

    Harriet then talks with Seeing Eye Dogs kennel attendant Leonie Picker about life at kennels. We chat about what goes on a Seeing Eye Dogs' facility in Kensington and what the dogs get up to whilst boarding or living their through their formal training.

    To finish off Dr Nicola provides us with some helpful and interesting tips on young puppy socialisation. We chat about the safest ways to exercise and socialise a puppy who is not fully vaccinated minimising risks.

  • Hot weather care, lameness and injury, and adoption

    In this episode we're joined by three special guests.

    First is Mal Monk kennel attendant and part of our released dog adoption team. We're going to be talking about what happens to the dogs who become pet dogs. We talk about the adoptions process and how we find the best homes for dogs who weren't suited for the role. If you're interested in welcoming a released Seeing Eye Dog into your home, this interview will help you work out how to get the best match for you.     Secondly we have an interview from the archives, Seeing Eye Dogs kennel attendant and vet nurse Steve Tocci comes to chat with us about some hot weather care tips for your dog. Coming into summer months, this is great information that will help you keep your dog happy and healthy.

    Last but not least, we have Seeing Eye Dogs veterinarian and reproduction manager Dr Nicola Cotton with some important information about lameness and injury.     On this episode we've got a mix of important veterinary information and training tips from our expert staff.

    Dr Nicola Cotton, Veterinary and Reproduction Manager at Seeing Eye Dogs, gives us some important information on recognising the signs of heatstroke, preventing it and how to act if you are concerned about heatstroke. Then we talk about parasite prevention, and how to find the right protection for your dog.

    Then Abi Howes, Puppy Development Trainer, is back with us talking about helping your puppy or dog settle in public. These tips are perfect for events coming up during the holiday season and can assist your dog to be happy and comfortable hanging out!
