Seeing Religion(s) in 3D – Part 3: A Compelling Question

Listen Later

One of the things I’ve learned (and keep re-learning) in my conversations with people is the power of a compelling and timely question. At The Table, asking questions “is us”. I’ve got a sticker on my desk, a gift from someone in this community, that says, “Questions Are The Answer”. So this is familiar terrain in some ways. What might not be as familiar is the thought that if religion is doing its job well, it can serve as an interesting, even inspiring, source of compelling questions. We’ll poke around in that a bit in the Talky Bit this week.

But first, we’ll meet here at 10:45 a.m. for music and Community Time. Yes, that means this is an online Sunday, and there will be a digital lunch afterward. I’ll put the URL for that at the end of this email. There will NOT be a Wednesday evening Zoom hangout this week. We’ll post the podcast version of the Talky Bit early the following week, as usual.
Speaking of gatherings…an update on some of the pieces of our summer schedule as it continues to unfold:
-This week, May 15th is online  (you already knew this – just being thorough)
-Next week, May 22nd, is also online
-The week after that, May 29th, is the long weekend, and after some discussion we’ve decided to include that with our other summer long weekends and not gather at all. Although the May long weekend tends to be a roll of the weather-dice, here’s hoping for the kinds of days that will bring us out of houses and into the wider world of yards, parks and other green spaces. Our bodies and spirits need this kind of time, and if you make it practice to be part of our Sunday morning gatherings (whether you do that in the morning or at another time), I would encourage you to take that same amount of time and spend it outside. Include some time where you are doing “nothing”. Our bodies and spirits need that as well.June – well, we’ve got an interesting mix of gatherings planned for June! At this point, our plan is to meet online on June 5th, in-person at the McBeth House Center on the 12th (a new venue we’re test-driving), online on the 19th, and in-person at the Bourkevale Community Center on the 26th. July is still in the works, but what I can tell you already is that we won’t have a gathering on the long weekends that bump into either end of that month this year (the Sundays of July 3rd and July 31st). See above re: it’s a big world out there – go exploring!

That’s it for now, folks. I’m looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Peace,
Tim Plett
